We want everyone to feel welcome at Grain & Hearth. Here's what to expect at each of our shops, so you can plan your visit with confidence — and if we can make your visit easier in any way, please just let the team know and we'll do our absolute best to accommodate wherever possible.
Whitstable
Whitstable is our more accessible space. There is step-free access through the courtyard side entrance, which is signposted and located through the double gates beside the main entrance, and doorways inside are widened.
We have step-free access to our bathrooms. One has a widened door, an emergency pull cord alarm, a support bar and baby changing facilities.
Faversham
Our Faversham shop is a very old, listed building, which sadly comes with some challenges we feel is important to be upfront about.
There is a small lip (approximately 5mm) to enter, and the door could not be widened to accommodate mobility aids although most wheelchairs will fit . The toilet towards the back of the shop is up one step, and the space is quite small.
We know this makes the space less accessible for some people and we're sorry about that — we have done what we can within the restrictions the building and its listed status presented. Our Whitstable shop offers a more accessible visit.
Families
We have two highchairs available and there is space for pushchairs to be wheeled in. It can get quite busy, so at times it can be tricky to accommodate more than one or two unfolded pushchairs.
We have a lovely selection of independently published magazines to browse and some really beautiful children's books focusing on nature, kindness and diversity.
We know how tricky juggling a baby, sling or pram and all the paraphernalia can be — we're happy to help by bringing over your drinks or an extra glass, for example. Caring for a little one is hard work!
Dogs
We are dog friendly. We just ask that your furry friend is kept on a short lead so they can be kept at a safe distance from the food on display. We have dog bowls inside and outside.
Please reach out with any specific questions regarding accessibility and we'll do our best to help in whatever way we can.
